Christmas Crochet Make Ideas: Rudolph The Reindeer Crochet Cushion Pattern

Trotting out is a crochet Rudolph reindeer cushion!

I decided not to take on as many Christmas makes this year as the last few years have been a disaster with trying to get everything completed on time and I end up still working on Christmas Eve!.

After completing this cushion its also given me a few more ideas for Christmas cushion makes – these will have to wait until next year!

Rudolph Cushion Crochet Pattern

Materials

  • 6mm crochet hook.
  • 2x100g balls of DK wool in brown.
  • 1x50g ball of DK wool in red.
  • 1x50g ball of DK wool in light brown.
  • 1x25g ball of DK wool in black.
  • 1x25g ball of DK wool in white. 
  • Darning needle.
  • Scissors.
  • Stitch marker.
  • Toy Stuffing.

Finished Size (approx.)

  • 43cm diameter (not including antlers). 

RUDOLPH CUSHION CROCHET PATTERN

Rudolph Cushion – Front

Red wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.

Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.

Round 1: 2sc into each sc (12).

Round 2: 2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch. Repeat around (18). 

Round 3: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 2 stitches. Repeat around (24). 

Round 4: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 3 stitches. Repeat around (30).

Round 5: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 4 stitches. Repeat around (36). 

Round 6: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 5 stitches. Repeat around (42).

Round 7: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 6 stitches. Repeat around (48).

Round 8: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 7 stitches. Repeat around (54).

Round 9: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 8 stitches. Repeat around (60). 

Round 10: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 9 stitches. Repeat around (66).

Change to brown, using 2 strands at the same time.

Round 2: 3sc into next sc  twice, 2sc, 3sc into next sc twice, 2sc (16).

Round 3: 2sc, 2sc into next sc three times, 4sc, 2sc into next sc 3 times, 4sc (22).

Round 4: 3sc, 2sc into next sc three times, 8sc, 2sc into next sc three times, 5sc (28).

Fasten off.

Pupil – Make 2

Black wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.

Make a magic ring, ch1, 5sc into ring.

Round 1: 2sc into each sc (10).

Round 2: 2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch. Repeat around (15).

Fasten off.

Rudolph Cushion – Mouth

Black wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.

ch19, sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc along rest of the row.

Fasten off, leaving long thread to attach.

Rudolph Cushion – Antlers

Make 2.

Light brown wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time. Use stitch marker to mark the ss on each round. 

ch18, ss into start of ch to make a round (18).

Rounds 1-7: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc into same sc, 17sc, ignore ss and ch1 from starting ch, ss into sc at start of the round.

Round 8: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc into same sc, 2sc, instead of sc into next sc, sc into 3rd stitch from the end of the round (ignoring ss and ch1 from previous round), sc into 3 final sc of the round, skip ss and ch1 from previous round, then ss into sc at start of the round (6sc). 

Antler point 1 – Working on those 6sc only:

Rounds 1-5: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc into same sc, 5sc, ignore ss and ch1 from starting ch, ss into sc at start of the round.

Round 6: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc into same sc, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog, ignore ss and ch1 from starting ch, ss into sc at start of the round.

Fasten off by weaving around loose wool end around final row and pull to tighten.

Antler point 2 – Cast on into next sc next to previous part, pull up loop, ch1, sc into same sc, 2sc, sc into 3rd sc from the end of the round, 2sc, ss into sc at start of the round. 

Working on those 6sc only:

1-9: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc into same sc, 5sc, ignore ss and ch1 from starting ch, ss into sc at start of the round.

10: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc into same sc, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog, ignore ss and ch1 from starting ch, ss into sc at start of the round.

Fasten off by weaving around loose wool end around final row and pull to tighten.

Antler point 3 –Cast on into next sc next to previous part, pull up loop, ch1, sc into same sc, 5sc, ss into sc at start of the round. 

Working on those 6sc only:

Rounds 1-5: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc into same sc, 5sc, ignore ss and ch1 from starting ch, ss into sc at start of the round.

Round 6: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc into same sc, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog, ignore ss and ch1 from starting ch, ss into sc at start of the round.

Fasten off by weaving around loose wool end around final row and pull to tighten.

Rudolph Cushion – Assembly

  • Sew the pupil onto the eye background, then sew the eye onto the front of the cushion. 

  • Sew the nose piece onto the front of the cushion, when only 5cm remains place in some stuffing then sew the gap closed. 

  • Sew the mouth onto the front of the cushion.
  • Take one of the antlers and place along the top edge of the cushion with the base of the antler 2 rows down from the top edge of the cushion front, pin to secure and repeat with the other antler. 
  • Take the front and back pieces place wrong sides together and sew around to join, once a 10cm gap remains, place in some stuffing then sew the gap closed.
