Halloween preparations are well under way at the moment – meaning Halloween themed crochet makes are taking over! Following on from the Pumpkin storage baskets is some Halloween bunting. I got the idea for this whilst making my fabric Halloween pumpkin bunting, but for this I wanted to add a few different Halloween themed items rather than just using the pumpkins.
This Bunting includes a pumpkin, bat, spider, ghost and Frankenstein’s Monster.
You can also use the Halloween items from this bunting to make a some crochet Halloween coasters, crochet Halloween themed wall hanging or a crochet Halloween themed table mat.
Crochet Halloween Bunting Pattern
Materials
- 6mm crochet hook.
- 4.5mm crochet hook.
- 1 x 100g ball of DK wool in orange.
- 1 x 100g ball of DK wool in black.
- 1 x 100g ball of DK wool in green.
- 1 x 100g ball of DK wool in white.
- 1 x 100g ball of DK wool in purple.
- 1 x 50g ball of DK wool in grey.
- Darning needle.
- Scissors.
- Stitch marker.
Finished sizes (approx.)
Widest point from left to right and top to bottom:
- Pumpkin – 10cm x 10cm.
- Ghost – 9cm x 9cm.
- Bat – 13cm x 10cm.
- Frankenstein’s monster – 9cm x 9cm.
- Spider – 15cm x 9cm.
Crochet Halloween Bunting: Pumpkin
Orange wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (12).
Round 2: 2sc into next sc, htr/hdc into next stitch. Repeat around (18).
Round 3: ss, 8sc, ss, 8sc (18).
Round 4: ss, htr/hdc, 3htr/hdc into next stitch, 5htr/hdc, sc, ss, sc, 5htr/hdc, 3htr/hdc into next stitch, htr/hdc (22).
Round 5: ss, 3htr/hdc, 3tr/dc into next stitch, 4htr/hdc, 2htr/hdc into next stitch, sc, ss, sc, 2htr/hdc into next stitch, 4htr/hdc, 3tr/dc into next stitch, 3htr/hdc (28).
Round 6: ss, 4htr/hdc, 3htr/hdc into next stitch, 6htr/hdc, 2htr/hdc into next stitch, sc, ss, sc, 2htr/hdc into next stitch, 6htr/hdc, 3htr/hdc into next stitch 4htr/hdc (34).
Fasten off.
Pumpkin Stem:
Green wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.
Insert hook into ss stitch at start of round 6, pull up loop, ch2 4tr/dc into same stitch, ch2, ss into same stitch.
Fasten off.
Pumpkin Eyes – Make 2 Per Pumpkin:
Black wool, 4.5mm hook, 1 strand.
ch4, sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc along row (3sc).
Round 1: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc2tog, sc (2sc).
Round 2: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc2tog (1sc).
Fasten off leaving long thread to attach.
Sew eyes onto the pumpkin.
Crochet Halloween Bunting: Ghost
White wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (12).
Round 2: 2sc into next sc, htr/hdc into next stitch. Repeat around (18).
Round 3: 2sc into next stitch, htr/hdc into next 2 stitches. Repeat around (24).
Round 4: *(sc, tr/dc) into next stitch, (tr/dc, sc) into next stitch. Repeat from * around (48).
Fasten off.
Eyes – Make 2 Per Ghost:
Black wool, 4.5mm hook, 1 strand.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.
Fasten off, leaving long thread to attach.
Sew the eyes onto the ghost.
Crochet Halloween Bunting: Spider
Black wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (12).
Round 2: 2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch. Repeat around (18).
Round 3: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 2 stitches. Repeat around (24).
Round 4: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 3 stitches. Repeat around (30).
Round 5: htr/hdc around (30).
Fasten off.
Eyes – Make 2 Per Spider:
White wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring (6sc).
Fasten off leaving long thread to attach.
Sew onto the spider.
Using 1 strand of black wool, sew on the pupil detail.
Legs – Make 8 Per Spider:
Black wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.
ch10.
Fasten off leaving long thread to attach.
Fold the leg half way down and sew to secure.
Sew 4 legs onto each side of the spider.
Teeth:
Using 1 strand of white wool, sew on 2 lines to form a triangle on each side of the spider.
Crochet Halloween Bunting: Bat
Purple wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (12).
Round 2: 2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch. Repeat around (18).
Round 3: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 2 stitches. Repeat around (24).
Round 4: 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 3 stitches. Repeat around (30).
Round 5 htr/hdc around (30).
Fasten off.
Wings – Make 2 Per Bat:
Black wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.
ch6, sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc along row (5sc).
Round 1: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc2tog, sc, sc2tog (3sc).
Round 2: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc2tog, sc (2sc).
Round 3: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc2tog (1sc).
Fasten off, leaving long thread to attach.
Sew wing onto each side of the bat.
Eyes – Make 2 Per Bat:
Black wool, 4.5mm hook, 1 strand.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.
Fasten off, leaving long thread to attach.
Sew on to the bat.
Mouth/Teeth:
Using 1 strand of black wool sew on the mouth.
Using 1 strand of white wool sew on two triangles for the teeth.
Ears – Make 2 Per Bat:
Purple wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.
ch4, sc and htr/hdc into 2nd ch from hook, (tr/dc, ch2, ss into 2nd ch from hook, tr/dc) into next stitch, htr/hdc and sc into into last stitch.
Fasten off leaving long thread to attach.
At the base of the ear fold in the 2 sides so they meet in the middle and sew to secure.
Sew onto the top of the bat.
Crochet Halloween Bunting: Frankenstein’s Monster
Green wool, 6mm hook, 2 strands at the same time.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (12).
Round 2: 2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch. Repeat around (18).
Round 3: (2sc into next stitch, sc into next 2 stitches) twice, change to black, (2sc into next sc, sc into next 2 stitches) twice, change to green (2sc into next sc, sc into next 2 stitches) twice (24).
Round 4: (2sc into next stitch, sc into next 2 stitches) twice, 2sc into next sc, sc, change to black, sc (2sc into next sc, sc into next 2 stitches) twice, 2sc into next sc, sc, change to green, sc, (2sc into next sc, sc into next 2 stitches) twice (32).
Round 5: 11htr/hdc, change to black, (sc and tr/dc into next stitch, tr/dc and sc into next stitch) 6 times, change to green, 9htr/hdc (44).
Bolts:
Using 1 strand of grey wool, sew 3 stitches 7sc down from the black section on the right and left of the monster.
Eyes – Make 2 Per Monster:
Black wool, 4.5mm hook, 1 strand.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.
Fasten off, leaving long thread to attach.
Sew eyes onto monster.
Mouth:
Using 1 strand of black wool sew one long line from left to right for the mouth, then sew 3 shorter lines going across.
Crochet Halloween Bunting: Bunting Chain
Green wool, 4.5mm hook, 1 strand.
ch the length of string required.
Fasten off.
Attach the bunting pieces to the chain.
