Time For Something Summery: Crochet Granny Stitch Triangle Ladybird Bunting Pattern

I’ve had crochet bunting on my ideas lists for a while now but haven’t had the chance to get started with any – the list os just too long!.

After seeing some ladybirds scurrying about on some leaves and an idea came to mind to make some ladybird themed bunting.

I decided to do the bunting in the colour of the leaves and have some little ladybirds sat on them.

Crochet Ladybird Bunting With Granny Stitch Pattern:

Finished Size:

Bunting sides measure 15cm.

Materials:

  • 4.5mm crochet hook.
  • 1 x 100g ball of DK wool in green.
  • 1 x 100g ball of DK wool in dark green.
  • 1 x 25g ball of DK wool in red.
  • 1 x 25g ball of DK wool in black.
  • Darning needle.

Dark Green Bunting:

Green wool, 4.5mm hook.

Round 1: Make a magic ring, ch3 (picture 1), 2tr/dc into ring (picture 2).  (ch2, 3t/dc into ring) twice (picture 3 and 4), ch2, ss into top of ch3 at start of round (picture 5).

Round 2: ch3, 2tr/dc into ch2 gap (picture 1), *ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2, 3tr/dc) into ch2 gap (picture 2).  Repeat from * once more. ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2) into ch2 gap.  ss into top of ch3 at start of the round (picture 3).

Round 3: ch3, 2tr/dc into ch2 gap, *ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap (picture 1), ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2, 3tr/dc) into ch2 gap.  Repeat from * once more. ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap, ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2) into ch2 gap.  ss into top of ch3 at start of the round (picture 2).

Round 4: ch3, 2tr/dc into ch2 gap, *(ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap) twice, ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2, 3tr/dc) into ch2 gap.  Repeat from * once more. (ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap) twice, ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2) into ch2 gap.  ss into top of ch3 at start of the round.

Round 5: ch3, 2tr/dc into ch2 gap, *(ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap) three times, ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2, 3tr/dc) into ch2 gap.  Repeat from * once more. (ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap) three times, ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2) into ch2 gap.  ss into top of ch3 at start of the round. Change to green during ss. 

Round 6: ch1, sc into ch2 gap (picture 1), *3sc – one into top of each tr/dc (picture 2), 2sc into ch2 gap (picture 3) four times.  3sc – one into top of each tr/dc, 3sc into ch2 gap.  Repeat from * once more. (3sc – one into top of each tr/dc, 2sc into ch2 gap) four times.  3sc – one into top of each tr/dc, sc into ch2 gap.  ss into top of ch1 at start of round. Change to dark green during ss.

Round 7: ch1, sc into same stitch, 27sc (picture 1), sc into ch2 gap (picture 2) (ch4 (picture 3), sc into ch2 gap (picture 4)) nine times, ch4, sc into ch2 gap.  Fasten off.

Green Bunting 

Green wool, 4.5mm hook.

Round 1: Make a magic ring, ch3, 2tr/dc into ring.  (ch2, 3tr/dc into ring) twice, ch2, ss into top of ch3 at start of round. 

Round 2: ch3, 2tr/dc into ch2 gap, *ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2, 3tr/dc) into ch2 gap.  Repeat from * once more. ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2) into ch2 gap.  ss into top of ch3 at start of the round.

Round 3: ch3, 2tr/dc into ch2 gap, *ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap, ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2, 3tr/dc) into ch2 gap.  Repeat from * once more. ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap, ch2 (3tr/dc, ch2) into ch2 gap.  ss into top of ch3 at start of the round.

Round 4: ch3, 2tr/dc into ch2 gap, *(ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap) twice, ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2, 3tr/dc) into ch2 gap.  Repeat from * once more. (ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap) twice, ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2) into ch2 gap.  ss into top of ch3 at start of the round.

Round 5: ch3, 2tr/dc into ch2 gap, *(ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap) three times, ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2, 3tr/dc) into ch2 gap.  Repeat from * once more. (ch2, 3tr/dc into ch2 gap) three times, ch2, (3tr/dc, ch2) into ch2 gap.  ss into top of ch3 at start of the round. 

Round 6: ch1, sc into ch2 gap, *3sc – one into top of each tr/dc, 2sc into ch2 gap) four times.  3sc – one into top of each tr/dc, 3sc into ch2 gap.  Repeat from * once more. (3sc – one into top of each tr/dc, 2sc into ch2 gap) four times.  3sc – one into top of each tr/dc, sc into ch2 gap.  ss into top of ch1 at start of round.  Change to dark green during ss. 

Round 7: ch1, sc around in back loops only.  Fasten off.

Ladybird:

Body:

Red wool, 4.5mm hook.

Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.

Round 1: 2sc into each sc (12).

Round 2: *2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch.  Repeat from * around (18). 

Fasten off.

Head: 

Black wool, 4.5mm hook.

make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.

Round 1: ss into next 2 stitches, 2sc into next two stitches, ss into next two stitches (8).

Fasten off.

Assembly – Ladybird 

Sew the head onto the body, placing the head 1 row down on the back of the body. 

Using black wool sew three stitches down the middle of the body, then sew four spots (2 each side).  

Sew ladybirds onto the bunting. 

Assembly – Joining The Bunting 

Take a strand of dark green and green wool and using 2 strands at the same time ch20, next take a piece of bunting and complete sc stitches along the top edge to secure (pictures 1 and 2), once sc stitches have been completed along the top edge of the bunting, ch10, before completing sc stitches along the top edge of the next piece of bunting.  Once all bunting pieces have been attached ch20 and fasten off.
