Bring more crochet out into the garden with some crochet Plant labels
I always find that the names on the labels I use when planting seeds disappears and for a while it ends up a guessing game of what I planted!
I decided it was time to bring some more crochet outside and thought why not combine this with my label issues. The out come of this idea are some crochet seed labels for a couple of different fruits/vegetables.
I’ve still got a few more I am wanting to make so don’t think it will be long until a few more of these pop up!
Crochet Vegetable And Fruit Seed Labels Pattern
Note: When each item is completed use glue to attach to the lollipop sticks.
Materials
- 4.5mm crochet hook.
- 3.5mm crochet hook.
- 25g balls of wool in:
- Light Green.
- Dark green.
- Red.
- White.
- Yellow.
- Lollipop sticks.
- Darning needle.
Chilli Plant Label
4.5mm crochet hook, red wool.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 4sc into ring.
Rounds 1-2: sc around (4).
Round 3: 2sc into each sc (8).
Rounds 4-6: sc around (8).
Change to dark green.
Round 7: (2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch) 4 times (12).
ss into next sc, ch5, ss into 2nd ch from hook, ss into remaining ch, ss into sc at base of ch5.
Fasten off, leaving long thread, using this long thread weave in and out around the last row and pull tight. Sew to secure.
Cauliflower Label
Cauliflower middle:
4.5mm crochet hook, white.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 4sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (8).
Round 2: (sc2tog) 4 times (4).
Fasten off, leaving long thread, using this long thread weave in and out around the last row and pull tight. Sew to secure.
Cauliflower leaves:
Make 2, 4.5mm crochet hook, dark green.
ch10, sc into 2nd ch from hook, tr(UK)/hdc(US), tr(UK)/dc(US), htr(UK)/hdc(US), ss, htr(UK)/hdc(US), tr(UK)/dc(US), htr(UK)/hdc(UK), sc.
Fasten off, leaving long thread to attach.
Wrap one of the leaves around the cauliflower middle and sew to secure, repeat with the remaining leaf.
Pea Label
Pea outer shell:
4.5mm crochet hook, dark green.
ch16, ss into 1st ch to make a round (picture 1) (16).
Round 1: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc around, ss into 1st sc of the round (picture 2).
Round 2: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) 2sc into next sc, 6sc, 2sc into next sc, ch2 (picture 3), ss into 2nd ch from hook, 2sc into next sc, 6sc, 2sc into next sc, ch2 (picture 4), ss into 2nd ch from hook, ss into 1st sc of the round (picture 5).
Fasten off, leaving long thread. Using the long thread sew the bottom edge (the ch round at the start) of the pod together (picture 6).
Peas:
Make 3, 4.5mm crochet hook, light green.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 4sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (8).
Round 2: (sc2tog) 4 times (4).
Fasten off, leaving long thread, using this long thread weave in and out around the last row and pull tight. Sew to secure.
Sew the peas into the pea pod.
Tomato Label
4.5mm crochet hook, red.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 5sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (10).
Round 2: 2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch. Repeat around (15).
Fasten off.
3.5mm hook, dark green.
Insert hook, pull up loop (picture 1), ch4 (picture 2), sc into 4th ch from the hook (picture 3), ss into stitch at the base of the ch4 (picture 4). (ch4, sc into the 4th ch from hook, ss into stitch at the base of the ch4) 3 times (picture 5).
Fasten off.
Strawberry Label
4.5mm crochet hook, red.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 5sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (10).
Round 2: sc, 2sc into the next sc, 2htr/hdc into the next 2 stitches, 2tr/dc into next sc, 2htr/hdc into the next 2 stitches, 2sc into next sc, 2sc (17).
Fasten off.
3.5mm hook, dark green.
Insert hook, pull up loop (picture 1), ch4 (picture 2), sc into 4th ch from the hook (picture 3), ss into stitch at the base of the ch4 (picture 4). (ch4, sc into the 4th ch from hook, ss into stitch at the base of the ch4) 4 times (picture 5).
Fasten off.
Using yellow, wool cast on and sew small seed details with a running stitch.
Sprout Label
Sprout middle:
4.5mm crochet hook, dark green.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 4sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (8).
Round 2: (sc2tog) 4 times (4).
Fasten off, leaving long thread, using this long thread weave in and out around the last row and pull tight. Sew to secure.
Sprout leaves:
Make 2, 4.5mm crochet hook, dark green.
ch10, sc into 2nd ch from hook, tr/hdc, tr/dc, htr/hdc, ss, htr/hdc, tr/dc, htr/hdc, sc.
Fasten off, leaving long thread to attach.
Wrap one of the leaves around the sprout middle and sew to secure, repeat with the remaining leaf.
