Finally finished and hastily making their way out the crochet pile are some Christmas Gnomes!
I have been wanting to make a Christmas gnome for the last few years, but with all the other makes I have had on I just haven’t had a chance, this year I decided it was time to get one made so put it at the top of my makes list. It has been a work in progress for the last few weeks as some other Christmas makes were completed but now finally I have got it finished! I’m so glad I have finally got one completed and have plans to get a few more made before Christmas in a couple of different colours.
Crochet Christmas Gnomes Pattern
Materials
- 4mm crochet hook.
- 50g ball DK wool in pale green.
- 50g ball DK wool in red.
- 25g ball DK wool in white.
- 25g ball DK wool in pink.
- 25g ball DK wool in black.
- Toy Stuffing.
- Darning needle.
Crochet Christmas Gnome: Main Body
4mm crochet hook, pale green wool
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring (6sc).
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (12sc).
Round 2: *2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch. Repeat from *around (18sc).
Round 3: *2sc into next sc, sc into next two stitches. Repeat from* around (24sc).
Round 4: sc around in back loops only (24sc).
Round 5: In the back loops only; *2sc into next sc, sc into next three stitches. Repeat from * around (30sc).
Round 6: sc around in back loops only (30sc).
Round 7: In the back loops only; *2sc into next sc, sc into next four stitches. Repeat from * around (36sc).
Round 8: sc around in back loops only (36sc).
Round 9: In the back loops only; *2sc into next sc, sc into next five stitches. Repeat from *around (42sc).
Rounds 10-12: sc around in back loops only (42sc).
Round 13: In the back loops only; *sc2tog, sc into next five stitches. Repeat from * around (36sc).
Round 14: sc around in back loops only (36sc).
Round 15: In the back loops only; *sc2tog, sc into next four stitches. Repeat from * around (30sc).
Rounds 16-17: sc around in back loops only (30sc).
Round 18: In the back loops only; *sc2tog, sc into next three stitches. Repeat from * around (24sc).
Round 19: sc around in back loops only (24sc).
Round 20: In the back loops only; *sc2tog, sc into next two stitches. Repeat from * around (18sc).
Round 21: In the back loops only; *sc2tog, sc into next stitch. Repeat from * around (12sc).
Insert stuffing.
Round 22: In the back loops only; *sc2tog. Repeat from * around (6sc).
Fasten off.
Crochet Christmas Gnome: Hat
4mm crochet hook, red wool
Make a magic ring, ch1, 4sc into ring (4sc).
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (8sc).
Rounds 2-4: sc around (8sc).
Round 5: *2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch. Repeat from *around (12sc).
Rounds 6-9: sc around (12sc).
Round 10: *2sc into next sc, sc into next two stitches. Repeat from* around (16sc).
Rounds 11-12: sc around (16sc).
Round 13: *2sc into next sc, sc into next three stitches. Repeat from * around (20sc).
Round 14: sc around (20sc).
Round 15: *2sc into next sc, sc into next four stitches. Repeat from * around (24sc).
Rounds 16-17: sc around (24sc).
Round 18: *2sc into next sc, sc into next five stitches. Repeat from *around (28sc).
Rounds 19-20: sc around (28sc).
Round 21: *2sc into next sc, sc into next six stitches. Repeat from *around (32sc).

Round 33: *2sc into next sc, sc into next ten stitches. Repeat from * around (48sc).
Rounds 34-36: sc around (48sc).
Round 37: *skip 1 sc, 6htr(UK)/hdc(US) into next stitch, skip 1sc, sc into next stitch. Repeat from *around.
Fasten off.
Crochet Christmas Gnome: Pom pom
Using the pale green wool, fold back and forth making 5cm long strips until you have 15 loops on each side.
Cut a 10cm long strip of pale green wool and tie around the middle of the looped wool.
Sew the pom pom to the top of the hat.
Cut the loops and fray the wool to finish the pom pom.
Crochet Christmas Gnome: Nose
4mm hook, pink wool.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 4sc into ring (4sc).
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (8sc).
Round 2: *2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch. Repeat from *around (12sc).
Round 3: sc around (12sc).
Round 4: *sc2tog, sc into next stitch. Repeat from * around (8sc).
Add stuffing, and fasten off.
Crochet Christmas Gnome: Feet
4mm hook, black wool.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 4sc into ring (4sc).
Round 1: 2sc into each sc (8sc).
Round 2: sc around (8sc).
Round 3: sc2tog. Repeat around (4sc).
Fasten off.
Crochet Christmas Gnome: Arms
4mm hook, starting in pink.
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring (6sc).
Round 1: sc around (6sc).
Change to pale green.
Rounds 2-4: In the back loops only; sc around (6sc).
Fasten off.
Crochet Christmas Gnome: Assembly
- Fold up the bottom edge of the hat, and sew the hat onto the body.
- Sew the nose onto the front of the body just under the brim of the hat.
- Sew the feet onto the bottom of the body.
Crochet Christmas Gnome: Beard
Using white wool, cast on near the nose and sew large loops to form the beard.
Fasten off.
