Sewing Tutorial: Drawstring Wash Bag – Perfect Father’s Day Make

This drawstring wash bag is great for keeping everything together in one place, this lovely steam punk fabric by the Craft Cotton Company really makes it stand out too. Added bonus is that you can get this bag made in an evening, I must admit I do love a quick make that can be squeezed in amongst other long running projects.

I made this drawstring wash bag tutorial for The Craft Cotton Company, take a look over at this and other great ideas over on The Craft Cotton Company blog.

Fabric gifted by The Craft Cotton Company.

Sewing Tutorial: Drawstring Wash Bag

  1. Place the steampunk cogs fabric right sides together along the top edge of the steampunk clocks fabric and sew along to join.

  1. Fold the fabric in half placing right sides together.  Starting 18cm down from the top edge, sew down the side and along the bottom. Turn the bag out the right way.

  1. Fold over the whole length of the top edge (steampunk cogs fabric) by 1cm, then fold in the side seam raw edges by 1cm.  Now, fold the steampunk cogs fabric inwards making it line up with the top edge of the steampunk clocks fabric.  Pin and sew along this line.  Then sew another line 2cm up from the previous line.

  1. Thread the ribbon through the section created by the 2 sewn lines, and fold over the ends of the ribbon. Sew to prevent fraying.

  1. Slip stitch closed the two side seams above the drawstring section.
