Halloween wouldn’t be complete without some cackling witches lurking about, so I thought of doing these witches hat decorations, it should keep people on their toes – you never know when the witch might come cackling back to get it!
You could do these as big or as small as you wanted, I opted to do mine quite small so I could get quite a few dotted about the house. Also the colour of the band around it could be any colour that you like best. I opted for purple and green for mine as I like those colours for Halloween.
Crochet witches hats pattern
Materials:
- Black wool for the hat – 50g ball of DK wool.
- Different coloured wool for the band around the hat – 25g ball of DK wool.
- 4mm hook.
Large Hat:
For the Hat Base:
4mm hook, in black:
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc.
Round 2: 2sc into same sc, sc. Repeat around.
Round 3: 2sc into same sc, 2sc. Repeat around.
Round 4: 2sc into same sc, 3sc. Repeat around.
Round 5: 2sc into same sc, 4sc. Repeat around.
Round 6: 2sc into same sc, 5sc. Repeat around.
Round 7: 2sc into same sc, 6sc. Repeat around.
Round 8-9: sc around.
Fasten off.
For the main hat:
4mm hook, in black:
Make a magic ring, ch1, 4sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each stitch.
Round 2-3: sc around.
Round 4: 2sc into same sc, sc. Repeat around.
Round 5-6: sc around.
Round 7: 2sc into same sc, 2sc. Repeat around.
Round 8: 2sc into same sc, 3sc. Repeat around.
Round 9: sc around.
Round 10: 2sc into same dc, 4sc. Repeat around.
Round 11: 2sc into same dc, 5sc. Repeat around.
Round 12: sc around.
Round 13: 2sc into same dc, 6sc. Repeat around.
Round 14-18: sc around.
Fasten off leaving long thread to attach to the base, stuff the main hat part, then sew the hat to the base.
Band around hat:
In your chosen colour, 4mm hook:
ch4.
Row 1: sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc along rest of row.
Rows 2-34: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) sc along row.
Fasten off and leave a long thread to attach around the hat at the base.
Small hat:
For the hat base:
4mm hook, in black:
Make a magic ring, ch1, 6sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc.
Round 2: 2sc into same sc, sc. Repeat around.
Round 3: 2sc into same sc, 2sc. Repeat around.
Round 4: 2sc into same sc, 3sc. Repeat around.
Round 5: 2sc into same sc, 4sc. Repeat around.
Round 6: sc around.
Fasten off.
Main hat part:
4mm hook, black wool.
Make magic ring, ch1, 4sc into ring.
Round 1: 2sc into each sc.
Round 2: sc around.
Round 3: 2sc into same sc, sc. Repeat around.
Round 4-5: sc around.
Round 6: 2sc into same sc, 2sc. Repeat around.
Round 7: sc around.
Round 8: 2sc into same sc, 3sc. Repeat around.
Round 9: sc around.
Round 10: 2sc into same sc, 4sc. Repeat around.
Round 11: sc around.
Fasten off leaving long thread to attach to base. Stuff the main hat part, then sew onto the base.
Hat Band:
In your chosen colour, 4mm hook:
ch3.
Row 1: sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc.
Rows 2-21: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch), sc along rows
