I’ve had this one on my list a while now after a few friends mentioned about them having to get gifts for school teachers, it gave me the idea to do these little crochet apples which would be great as present decorations!
I couldn’t decide whether to do one completely green or do one like an apple had been cut in half so decided to do both and see how they looked, I still don’t think I can decide which I like best!
I have used green for those as this is what I had in my stash! But you could also use red, which would look really good with the green leaf, and you could also leave the lead off of you didn’t want to include it.
All this apple making is making me hungry!
Apple pattern
4mm hook
Wool in cream, green, brown
In cream
Make a magic ring ch1, 6dc into ring
Round 1: 2dc into each dc
Round 2: 2dc into same stitch, 1dc. Repeat around
Round 3: 2dc into same stitch, 2dc. Repeat around
Round 4: 2dc into same stitch 3dc. Repeat around
Round 5: 2dc into same stitch 4dc. Repeat around
Change to green
Round 6: Slip stitch whole way around the edge
Round 7: slip stitch around again Into the previous green slip stitch round, and slip stitch into first green slip stitch to finish.
Fasten off
For a whole green apple, work rows 1-6 in green, completing the first round of slip stitches around the edge only, then fasten off. Then attach stem and leaf.
Fasten on at end of previous round, but fasten on into the row down from the last row, dc, ch4, slip stitch into second ch from hook and the remaining, slip stitch into same dc stitch at the base that you started on.
Row 1: Ch2, 2dc into 2nd ch from hook
Row 2: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) 2dc into same stitch, dc
Row 3: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) dc along row
Row 4: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) dc2tog, dc
Row 5: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) dc2tog
dc around edge of leaf.
Fasten off
Sew line down the centre of the leaf in green with two long stitches.
Sew leaf onto back of stem half way down
Pips
Sew on pips diagonally in brown onto the 3rd round 4dc apart, sew the stitches diagonally and do two stitches into the same space to make them stand out.
What a lovely idea! They’d would make a great brooch.

Thank you, that’s a great idea for them – might have to give that a go!
