After making my Crochet Yoda book buddy I wanted to try something similar but with a slightly different approach, rather than creating a square from rows I decided to use a granny square as the basis for the square. I decided to do a slightly different square pattern from the traditional granny square and changed colour during one of the rounds to add in the ear detail rather than sewing that on afterwards.

I wasn’t too sure if I had done the right thing until I added the nose and eye detail and was super happy to see the idea had worked! (There are many failed ideas in my projects bag that haven’t been as successful!)

Crochet Fox Book Buddy/Bookmark Pattern

Finished size:

12 (top long edge) x 6cm (top edge to pointed base).

Materials:

• 4.5 mm crochet hook.
• Darning needle. 
• 1 x 50g ball of DK wool in orange. 
• 1 x 25g ball of DK wool in black. 
• 1 x 25g ball of DK wool in white.

4.5 mm hook, orange wool.

ch5, ss into ch at the start of the row.

Round 1: ch3, tr/dc, (ch2, 2tr/dc) 7 times. ch2, ss into top of ch3 at start of the round.

Round 2: ch3, 2 tr/dc into ch gap *ch2, 3tr/dc into next ch space, ch3, 3tr/dc into next ch space.  Repeat from *twice more.  ch2, 3tr/dc into next ch space, ch3 ss into top of ch3 st start of the round. 

Round 3: ch3, 2tr/dc into ch gap *ch2, change to white, 3tr/dc into next ch space, change to orange, ch2 (3tr/dc, ch3, 3tr/dc) into next ch space.  Repeat from * once more.  ch2, 3tr/dc into next ch space, ch2, 3tr/dc into next ch space, ch3, ss into top of ch3 at start of the round. 

Round 4:  ch3, 2tr/dc into ch gap, tr/dc into each of the tr/dc of previous row, 2tr/dc into the ch2 gaps, 3tr/dc, ch3, 3tr/dc into ch3 spaces. 3tr/dc into last ch3 space, ss into top of ch3 at start of the round.

 

Fasten off. 

Crochet Fox Book Buddy/Bookmark: Square Folding

Take the square and fold the top right corner to the bottom left corner (wrong sides together). Then taking the top layer of the square fold the corner back so the point of the corner reaches the top long edge.  

Sew down each side of the folded edge to secure. 

Fold down the middle point of the top edge by 1cm and sew to secure.

Eyes

4.5 mm hook, black wool.

Make a magic ring, ch2, 4sc into ring.

Fasten off leaving long thread to attach.

Sew on the eyes. 

Nose

Using black wool and a needle cast on and sew a few stitches into the bottom point to form the nose.
