Sewing Tutorial: Halloween Bat Cushion

  1. Cut out bat templates in two different sizes, one with a 5cm high middle section and one 10cm high middle section. To make the templates, fold a piece of paper in half and draw out one side of the bat, cut around this then fold out flat to give you your bat template.

  1. Using the paper template cut out 2 large bats and 3 small bats from the black fabric.

  1. Cut out small triangles from the white felt to make the bat fangs.

  1. Sew the white felt fangs and black eye sequins on to the bats.

  1. Place the batting behind the front cushion piece (50x50cm Batman fabric piece) and pin the bats into position.  Sew around the edge of the bats in black to secure, next sew around 1 cm from the edge of the bat in orange to create the quilted detail.

  1. Fold the two 55x55cm pieces in half to create the two back pieces.

  1. Place the front cushion piece right side facing up and then place the two backing pieces right sides down on top making sure that they overlap in the middle by around 5cm.

  1. Sew around the cushion then turn out the right way.
