After making my Crochet Elf Storage baskets I had an idea to make an Elf drawstring bag for some of my other Christmas presents to go into, I always seem to use paper gift bags at Christmas when gifting and decided to go for something a bit different this year. I also seem to have acquired a mass of green and red wool (I’m sure wool sneaks in overnight!) so these makes will be perfect for using some of it up!

Elf Drawstring Bag Crochet Pattern

Materials

• 6mm crochet hook.
• 1x100g ball of DK wool in green.  
• 1x100g ball of DK wool in red.
• 1x50g ball of DK wool in brown.
• 1x25g ball of DK wool in yellow.
• Darning needle.
• Scissors.
• Stitch marker.

Finished size (approx.)

• 18cm Tall.
• 18cm Diameter. 

Elf Drawstring Bag Crochet Pattern

6mm hook, green wool, using 2 strands at the same time.

Make a magic ring, ch1, 10sc into ring (10sc).

Round 1: sc around (10sc).

Round 2: 2sc into each sc (20sc).

Round 3: 2sc into next sc, sc into next stitch.  Repeat around (30sc).

Round 4: sc around (30sc).

Round 5: 2sc into next sc, sc into next two stitches.  Repeat around (40sc).

Round 6: sc around (40sc).

Round 7: 2sc into next sc, sc into next three stitches.  Repeat around (50sc).

Round 8: sc around (50sc).

Round 9: 2sc into next sc, sc into next four stitches. Repeat around (60sc).

Round 10: sc around (60sc).

Round 11: 2sc into next sc, sc into next five stitches. Repeat around (70sc).

Round 12: sc around (70sc). 

Round 13: sc around in back loops only (70sc).

Rounds 14-22: sc around (70sc).

Change to brown.

Round 23: 31sc, ch2, skip 2sc, 4sc, ch2, skip 2sc, 31sc.

Rounds 24-25: sc around (70sc).

Round 26: 31sc, ch2, skip 2sc, 4sc, ch2, skip 2sc, 31sc.

Change to green.

Rounds 27-35: sc around (70sc).

Change to red.

Round 36: sc around (70sc).

Round 37: *6sc, ch1, skip 1 sc.  Repeat from * around ending on a ch1, leaving the last sc of the round unworked. 

Round 38: sc around (70sc).

Round 39: sc around in front loops only (70sc).

Round 40:

In UK crochet terms: *sc, half treble, treble, double treble, triple treble, ch2, slip stitch into 2nd ch from hook, triple treble, double treble, treble, half treble, sc. Repeat from * around.

In US crochet terms: *sc, half double, double, treble, double treble, ch2, slip stitch into 2nd ch from hook, double treble, treble, double, half double, sc. Repeat from * around.

Fasten off. 

Belt Buckles 

6mm hook, yellow wool, using 2 strands at the same time.

ch8, sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc along rest of the row. 

Fasten off leaving long thread to attach.

Sew belt buckles into place by threading through the gaps in the basket and sewing the two ends together on the inside of the basket.

Drawstring 

6mm hook, red wool, using 2 strands at the same time.

ch 81, sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc along rest of the row.

Fasten off.

Weave in and out of the gaps made by the ch1 skip 1sc on row 37.
